Cultural Identity

Cultural Identity & Heritage Work

A woman with a joyful expression, eyes closed, and messy bun stands in a forest. She's wearing a choker and necklace. Light rain adds to the fresh, cheerful mood.

About This Programme

Cultural Identity & Heritage Work is dedicated to reconnecting individuals and communities with their ancestry, traditions, and lived cultural knowledge. The programme creates opportunities to explore history, celebrate heritage, and preserve stories that shape identity across generations. Through education, discussion, and cultural experiences, it encourages pride, belonging, and a deeper understanding of cultural roots.

What’s the Challenges

Many communities face disconnection from their cultural identity due to migration, historical displacement, generational gaps, and lack of access to accurate cultural education. Important stories, traditions, and lived experiences can be lost over time if they are not actively preserved and shared.

Key Challenges:

  • Loss of cultural knowledge and traditional practices
  • Limited access to heritage education and resources
  • Generational disconnect from ancestry and identity
  • Underrepresentation of diverse histories and experiences
  • Decline in oral storytelling and community traditions
  • Lack of spaces to celebrate and explore cultural identity

What We’re Doing About It

The programme works to preserve and celebrate cultural heritage through education, storytelling, creative activities, and community engagement. By creating spaces where history and lived experiences can be shared openly, the initiative strengthens identity, belonging, and intergenerational connection.

Our Actions Include:

  • Hosting cultural education and heritage workshops
  • Recording and sharing oral histories and lived experiences
  • Organising cultural celebrations and exhibitions
  • Encouraging intergenerational learning and dialogue
  • Supporting creative expression through art, music, and storytelling
  • Collaborating with historians, educators, and community leaders
